Climate Leadership

By decarbonizing our business and empowering customers to do the same, we are driving positive business performance while helping tackle the urgent challenge of climate change. Together with our partners, we are growing fast while growing our impact.

Advancing Our Resilience to Climate Change

For more than 100 years, Ecolab has led with purpose and an intense focus on driving positive performance and impact alongside our customers. That result is achieved through solutions that minimize waste, reduce water use and decrease energy consumption, helping lead to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are committed to delivering positive outcomes for our customers, communities and the environment through continuous efforts to reduce GHG emissions in our own and customers’ operations.

Our Science-based Targets

Operational Emissions

Halve absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, from a 2018 base year.

Value Chain Emissions

Collaborate with suppliers to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 25% from a 2022 base year across a portion of purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution and downstream leased assets categories as defined by the GHG Protocol.

Customers’ Emission

Support customers in helping prevent nearly 10 million pollution-induced illnesses by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 6 million metric tons.

Net-Zero Emissions

Reach net-zero emissions by 2050, including a 90% absolute reduction of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions (Scope 1 and 2 from a 2018 base year; Scope 3 from a 2022 base year).

Our Pathway to Reducing Operational Emissions

We utilize a combination of tactics supported by science-based strategies that aim to reduce emissions in our operations. This includes:

  • Continuing to develop innovative programs that reduce water and energy use for our customers
  • Increasing energy efficiency
  • Utilizing renewable electricity
  • Electrifying our fleet of service vehicles
