H₂S Scavenging for Finished Fuels

When contaminated with H2S, gasoline and diesel can fail the copper or silver corrosion test, have an objectionable odor and pose a safety hazard when shipped. In response to these challenges, Nalco Water developed several EPA-registered H2S scavengers. Our additives react non-reversibly with H2S to allow fuel to pass copper and silver corrosion specifications, and remove offensive sulfur-related odors. Safety, efficiency and effectiveness are key to all of our formulations.

Managing H₂S in Finished Fuel Storage and Distribution

Hydrogen sulfide is typically removed from finished products like gasoline and diesel during distillation or through various sweetening processes. But when unit upsets occur, finished products can become contaminated with H2S and, as a result, fail key specifications that require products to be non-corrosive to copper or silver. Nalco Water offers both water- and oil-soluble EPA-registered H2S scavengers for gasoline, diesel and their blend components. Our additives react quickly and irreversibly with H2S to form non-hazardous organo-sulfur compounds. Our H2S scavengers can also be used in conjunction with copper and silver corrosion inhibitors.

Beyond chemistries, we will also determine the most effective treatment protocol to quickly and efficiently remediate off-specification batches of fuel.
