Microsolutions bioengineering products and services support secondary wastewater treatment plants and help Nalco Water customers optimize performance and control costs. Our microsolutions laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility staffed by research scientists who specialize in comprehensive wastewater treatments. There, we use microbiological analysis, an essential diagnostic tool, to determine the root cause of upset conditions such as high effluent suspended solids or poor BOD removal.

Wastewater Biomass Analysis

The Wastewater Biomass Analysis (WBA) is a comprehensive microscopic analysis of activated sludge and includes:

  • Floc characterization
  • Evaluation of indicator organisms
  • Photomicrographs
  • Filament Identification

Bioengineering Products

Our INOC products are broad-spectrum formulations designed to rapidly establish a healthy biomass during an upset condition or when additional bacteria are required. Product offerings include:

  • Specially formulated dry bacteria for carbonaceous degradation
  • Active suspension of nitrifying bacteria
  • Micronutrients: trace mineral, amino acids and vitamins

Respirometry Studies

A laboratory-scale oxygen uptake analysis measures oxygen replacement on a continuous basis as consumed by the biomass. It can be used for:

  • Biodegradability testing
  • Toxicity/inhibition testing against suspect contaminants
  • Reaction rate studies to determine optimum oxygen or retention time
  • Nitrification Inhibition
